Dear Member,

I must apologise for the confusion concerning the dates of the last meeting which caused the attendance to be very low.

I was unable to come myself but our Treasurer, Maggie De Courcy sent me a detailed account of proceedings which I will pass on to you.

The meeting started as usual at 2:30PM.

Leonie Hawke provided a beautiful afternoon tea as usual and because there was some mixup in the scheduled date, we ended up having an informal discussion which everyone enjoyed.

Andrew Lo spoke on how to present paintings with embossed mounts for cost effective presentation, when framing isnot possible.

We discussed what makes a painting Chinese (brush, ink etc). We also discussed what sort of magazine we wish to produce with photos of our members' work.

It was decieded that all artists represented would be asked to contribute a nominal fee for having their work in black and white and artists wishing their work reproduced in colour wold have to pay extra. The Society's contribution will be at least $2000 to wards the cost.

Andrew promised to find out the various costs and let us know at the next meeting.

It was also decided to have the magazine properly bound.

Members were asked to come up with some possible venues for an exhibition. Try to come up with some suggestion at the next meeting.

Thank you Maggie, you make us all absentees sorry we missed such a friendly meeting!

Most local newspapers run some form of DIARY. Why not give them a ring and suggest that they include some information about our next meeting?

Remember, anyone interested in Chinese painting is welcome to come. We only ask for a small donation and, who knows, they may be interestd enough to become members.

There have been some very interesting exhibitions at the Chinese Cultural Centre in Chatswood and no doubt there will be many more to come.

Of interest is the one put on by one of our members form Germany. Undine Koerting is coming all the way to Sydney to exhibit here.

Her exhibition - titled

"A Way to Harmony"

Will open at 2pm

Saturday 20th October, 2001

You are invited and we hope to see as many of you as possible.

There will be an exhibition of well known Shanghai artists at the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre in Liverpool.

The exhibition, titled Shanghai Star will run from 29th September to 4th November.

The artists, all painting in oils, are all in residence and will be here until the end of the exhibition.

As well as the exhibition, the artists will hold master classes on 15th and 16th September. These will include traditional brush classes, charcoal portrait drawing and colour memory painting.

The memory painting class sounded particularly interesting as the artist in question, whom we met last Sunday, told us he had some very interesting tricks up his sleeve.

Should you be interested, I strongly advise you to ring the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre at 02 9824 1121 to get more details.

Our Clever Members

Congratulations to Andrew Lo for getting 1st Prize in the Warringah Art Show.

Congratulations also to Maggie De Courcey whose painting (which she painted at our last meeting) was highly commended at the Lane Cove Art Society Exhibition. The judge was well known watercolourist Allan Waite.

Saturday 15th September

The Australian Oriental Calligraphy Society

Will hold its

Tenth Annual Calligraphy Exhibition

The official opening will be held at

The Chinese Cultural Centre

Citadel Towers

Telephone: 9411 3799

As calligraphy is our sister art, we hope to see some of you at the opening.

Following this exhibition there should be a Chinese Painting Exhibition by YU FU QIAN an artist from Tianjing. As there is some uncertainty, you would be advised to ring the centre if you want to see his work.

And now it only remains for me to welcome our newest member, Jos Mowles form Surfers Paradise.

I hope to see as many of you as possible at our next meeting, and please don't forget to renew your subscription.

Your Secretary,

Mirra Hainsworth.
