Christmas Party Our next meeting will be held at
164 Victoria Avenue Chatsweed On 30th November, 2002 at 2:30pm |
Dear Member,
I must apologise for not writing you a September Newsletter. Too many
things required my attention at the time.
I have now returned after nearly two months' absence refreshed and ready
for Action.
Many things have happened during my time away - the most important being
our Society's participation in the Parramatta Art Society Exhibition.
The Parramatta Society held for the first time a Chinese Art Section,
which was sponsored by us.
I am glad to tell you that this section was very well represented. Many
of our members entered paintings of the highest standard. Let's hope that
this will be an inducement to more of you to pick up your brush and for
more people to join our Society.
Andrew Lo received the First prize, as well as having a High Commendation
and a Commendation for his paintings.
Evelyne Zeurcher Hadfield's painting was Very Highly Commended.
And Maggie DeCourcy received a High Commendation.
Congratulations to you all.
After this first success, we are in the process
of making inquiries into sponsoring a Chinese section in the Ryde Art
Exhibition. Let's hope we can repeat the performance.
An Exhibition of paintings by Stuart Leung was held at the Chinese Cultural
Centre in October. Stuart's paintings are always a to behold, with his
exuberant use of colour and poetic subjects. This exhibition was doubly
important as it was in support of an organisation which helps cancer patients
and their families. I hope many of you managed to attend it.
Another exhibition which came to my attention, unfortunately too late,
is one held in Melbourne, at the Chinese Community Cultural Centre. This
Exhibition was to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the foundation of
the Lingnan Art Association of Australia. The Lingnan School is very strong
in Melbourne where many students of the late Zhao Shao-ang live.
And now it only remains to me to remind you that our next meeting will
be on 30th November, as usual upstairs at Will's Quills' at 2.30PM.
As this will also be our Christmas Party, we would ask you to bring a
small plate for our afternoon tea. Please make it small.
It has been our custom over the years to ask you to bring a present for
the children of The Children's Hospital at Westmead who have to be hospitalised
over the Festive Season. You have always been most generous, I hope you
will do the same this year.
The toys should be gift wrapped and new. A label or card should be attached,
and please specify age and sex.
And now it only remains for me to wish a very Happy Christmas and a New
Year full of good health and prosperity.
Your Secretary,
Mirra Hainsworth.
