Dear Member, It is that time of the year when we all turn our attention to celebrations and parties, and for us also, that time has come.
There will be no demonstration, instead we will have a good opportunity to exchange ideas and have a friendly chat as well as admiring all the paintings that we hope you will have sent for our Exhibitions of Small Paintings As usual, we would like you to bring a small, and the emphasis is on small, plate. We have, over the past years, asked you to bring a gift for the sick children of the New Children's Hospital and would like to continue this tradition. The gifts should be new, wrapped and marked BOY or GIRL as well as the appropriate age. This is purely optional, so don't feel guilty if you can't bring something. About our Exhibition I hope that you have all profited from the demonstration and information so freely given by our President, Andrew Lo. We are looking forward to many paintings. I was browsing the other day in a photo shop and found some very nice pre-cut mats, some with an oval cut, others with two matching colours. For those of you still in search of inspiration on how to present your work, this could be the answer. Although this is going to be a very informal Exhibition, we still need to set up a list of the paintings, exhibited. We need this information for office use only and to draw a list of possible sales. To help us do this, please ring as soon as possible either MIrra at 9452 3055 or Maggie at 9878 1530 And let us know the title and price of your paintings. We agreed at the previous meeting that the paintings should not be larger than foolscap but not necessarily in that shape, and the price, no more than $50.00. As we will be advertising this exhibition, we hope we will have many paintings to sell. All paintings should be delivered on Thursday 25th November, in the afternoon, at Will's Quills. We need help! We need someone to receive the paintings on Thursday 26th to set up the Exhibition. We need people prepared to sit in the shop (next door to Will's Quills) and attend to sales, for three hours during the two weeks of the Exhibition. We shall be setting up a roster as soon as you contact us. And we need volunteers to come and take the paintings down when the Exhibition is over. We are very lucky and very grateful to William for letteing us have these premises which are at street level and consequently more likely to be seen by passers-by. We should make a real effort not to make William's staff responsible for our activities at this very busy time of the year. I need not remind you that all this is done to give you a chance to exhibit and sell your paintings. We are not taking any commission, and entry fee, and the Society is quite happy to cover the expense of the advertisements, all we ask of you is to provide the paintings and help as well as you can.
And now all that remains for me and the committee is to wish you All the very best for The Festive Season.
Your Secretary, Mirra Hainsworth.
