--- Newsletter ---
Volume 13 Issue 3
May, 2003

Dear Member,

I am writing you this newsletter earlier than usual as there are many things we have to settle before the Exhibition on 29th May 2003.
The dreaded 'flue kept me away from the last meeting but our indefatigable Treasurer Maggie sent me her notes.

Please read this part carefully as much depends on it.

  • If you haven't already done so, please send your entry form to :
    • Evelyne Hadfield
  • Evelyne is preparing the catalogue and needs all the necessary information including the price of the painting
  • Hanging the Paintings will take place on Wednesday 28th May.
  • Meet at William's at 10.30 AM with your paintings. Andrew will courier you to the
Chinese Cultural Centre where you can all help in hanging up the paintings.
  • The Exhibition will be held between 29th May and 10th June.
  • The Official opening will take place on Saturday 31st May, at 11 AM
We will take down the paintings on Wednesday 11th June, again at 10.30 AM
  • FLEXIBLE FRAMING WORKSHOP WITH ANDREW LO.
    17TH MAY, 2.30PM, AT WILL'S QUILLS
    (PLEASE NOTE, NO JUNE MEETING)
  • In preparation for the forthcoming exhibition at the Cultural Centre, artworks have to be put into frames, or scrolled. Customized framing involves fitting the frame to the painting. A 58cm x 48cm frame custom-made will cost from $ 60 to $ 80.
  • An alternative is to adopt a flexible framing approach by purchasing a ready made "made in China" frame of a similar size, replacing the picture in the frame with your own artwork and then add a mount board that can be cut to size to fit your painting. It will cost, all up, less than $ 25. The most common sizes are59cm x 48cm, 48cm x 48cm
When you select your ready-made frame, make sure that the backing board is held in place with flexible tabs and not staples. You will then be able to replace the picture whenever you wish, with the one you think most suitable for the exhibition. When buying the frame allow for a 5cm border all round your picture.
Andrew will arrange to provide some mount boards and cutters. Bought in bulk this will be cheaper.
  • I hope you are all painting furiously so we can put all those paintings together.

MEET LIU PU our new Honorary Member.
