AUSTRALIAN CHINESE PAINTING SOCIETY, INC

NEWSLETTER -- JULY 2005

Volume 15, Issue 4

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Member,

This newsletter has some very important information, so I would like you to read it very carefully.

I would like to start by telling you that the LIVERPOOL HOSPITAL ART SPACE have been kind enough to invite us to exhibit in their space again. I will lay out all the information as sent to me by Daisy Hsu who has undertaken to be the coordinator this time.

Date of the Exhibition: 7th November
Opening Day and Time: Friday 11th November at 11 AM.
Paintings per artists: No limit

FRAMES. There are many more frames available this year. We would like to suggest that you place a mount around your paintings, and possibly a backing board.

We would like you also to put a card at the back of the painting at the right hand bottom with your name, address, phone number, title of the painting and price.

If you choose to have your own frames, please make it no bigger that 280 cm in circumference, otherwise, your paintings should fit the following frames made available to us by the Art Space.

88 cm x 59 cm 50 New black aluminium frames
78 cm x 59 cm 8 black frames
59 cm x 41.9 cm 10 black frames
7 light blue frames
5 light green frames

For reservations of the frames please contact Daisy Hsu on 9452 4624,
Mobile 0414 292 292 or email dshsu@optusnet.com.au

Insurance: There is no insurance cover, but Liverpool Hospital will make sure that paintings are hung securely.

There is no cost for entering the exhibition, but we will arrange for transport to and from the Liverpool Hospital. The charge is $ 5.00 per painting whether it is framed of not. This amount covers picking up the paintings at my studio and delivering them back here. If you have no transport or finding it difficult to come to Belrose, may we suggest that you bring your paintings to the October meeting. With a bit of help we will be able to load them in my car and I will take them home.

We would like the paintings at Belrose no later than 10th October.

You will find attached a form for you to fill and deliver with the paintings, this facilitates the organization for us and the Hospital.

And now to other matters of importance.

I hope I have called everyone who regularly comes to our YUM CHAs to let you know that we had to postpone it to the following Saturday, as it clashed with Mr Ma's Exhibition of his students, which incidentally was very good.

We hope to see as many of you as possible on 16th. The time is as usual at 11.30 AM and the venue: The North Ryde RSL, at the Emperor Court. For bookings, ring Maggie at
9878 1530, as soon as possible.

A few years ago I bought an intriguing little book from William. It had some very interesting illustrations, albeit of rather poor quality. I took it home optimistically thinking that I could translate it. I was learning Chinese at the time ! After three tightly written pages and hours spent with my dictionary, I had to admit that I was beaten. So the book was forgotten.

Recently I showed it to Daisy, and we decided together that we would go through it and with her help with translation, work out all the interesting special effects depicted in the book, and share them with you.

Printing on Crinkled paper.

" Apply ink or pigments onto a hard surface, such as glass, plastic sheets or cardboard.
" Crumple the paper , then open it up without smoothing it too much.
" Press the paper onto the coloured board.

You can have as many colours as you wish on the surface, this will add interest to your work. A good example of this can be seen on the internet, if you have it. Try http://www.chineseartnet.com/YMC/birds/ccheck.jpg. There you will find some very interesting paintings of very detailed birds painted on such background.

Look forward in your next newsletters for further Special Effects.

Your membership subscription renewal is overdue. Please, send us your cheque or come to the meeting and pay your dues as the Society needs funds to survive. If you know of anyone in the least interested, please ask them to join us.

Before closing I would like to tell you of an exhibition opening at the Chinese Cultural Centre on 23rd July. The Exhibition will last one week and should be very interesting as the artist, KORN CHUEN CHOW has ties with the Lingnan school, a school I have often mention in my newsletters and magazine. It might inspire you to more painting.

Look forward to seeing you all a tour next meeting, Saturday 6th August at 2.30 PM.
