AUSTRALIAN CHINESE PAINTING SOCIETY, INC

NEWSLETTER -- JANUARY 2005

Volume 15, Issue 1

Dear Member,

I would like to apologize for the irregularity of last year's newsletters. I went on holiday and no one else had the time to take it over. I am truly sorry, but perhaps you'll be glad to know that I had a wonderful time!

However, my absence was not the only problem. In spite of all precautions, somehow a virus or other managed to introduce itself in my computer and I lost a tremendous amount of information. Fortunately, I had printed a membership list, so you'll be able to receive this newsletter.

The dispatch of all your paintings to Liverpool Hospital, thanks to the assistance of Christine Winterbotham, went well and I believe the Exhibition was very successful. Veena Macarty sold four paintings with the commission of one more, and Carole Washa sold another. Thao, the lady in charge of the Exhibition warned me that, because of the holidays, it will be a while before you get your cheques.

The transport to and from the venue came to cost $ 5.00 per painting which considering the distance, is reasonable, but in the future I could do with some assistance in its organization.

The October meeting went very well. Andrew's demonstration was by all accounts very interesting. He showed members how to easily and cheaply mount paintings o a canvas board, thus avoiding the need of expensive frames.

Apart from the demonstration, some momentous decisions were taken.

From now on, all meetings would be held on the first Saturday of the even months, i.e. February, April, June, August, October and on the last Saturday of November. This is because most people are too busy to attend in December.

Members also unanimously decided to a have a Yam Cha instead of the Christmas Party. It was held at the North Ryde RSL and very well attended. Even William graced us with his presence! We will try to organize a few more Yam Chas this year. It is a pleasant way to meet and have an informal chat instead of busily attending to out duties.

The Members also decided to use the courier service for other exhibitions and Christine kindly offered to be the contact Member.

The idea of bringing and showing works to the meetings was revived. Please bring some of your latest work at the next meeting so we can all admire of constructively criticize.

And now it only remains to me to wish you all

A HAPPY NEW YEAR and KUNG HEI FAT CHOI.

See you all at the next meeting on Saturday 5th February at 2.30 PM upstairs at Will's Quills, 164 Victoria Avenue, Chatswood.

Your Secretary,

Mirra Hainsworth.
