Dear Members

Our next meeting will take place on:

at

2.00pm at Will’s Quills

Andrew Lo will give us a demonstration on how to paint “clouds and misty mountains”

Mr Larry Lau was going to come to do the demonstration but had to cancel due to his wife Irene’s ill health

followed by our “Show and Tell” session – please bring your creations for all to see.

Dates to put in your diaries:

Finks Cafe exhibition during the whole month of June

The ACPS is joining The Australian Oriental Calligrphy Society (AOCS) for a joint exhibition in November 2008 (exact date to be advised) at the Chinese Cultural Centre in Chatswood. Further details to follow.

This is another reason to paint, or pull out/ rebirth some “old” paintings and last but not least the Ryde (September) and Parramatta (October) art shows.

Items of Interest

  • A warm “Welcome” to our new members Susan Ma and Joe Ling.
  • We would like to wish Maggie a full and speedy recovery after her recent surgery.
  • Mr. William Jiang, who gave our Society members free calligraphy lessons last year , has published his second book "A Concise Course of Chinese Painting". He has donated one copy of the book to our Society and a free copy to each of the members who participated in his course, Carole Burns and Daisy Hsu for their contributed to the translation of the book.

  • A few of our members attended Mirra Hainsworth’s Scroll Making workshop. This is the feed back from Diana Brookes:
Brian and I felt very fortunate to be taught traditional scroll making from Mirra at her fascinating studio in Belrose. After looking extensively in the Internet for instructions, it became clear to us that scroll making is a closely guarded secret. We are most grateful to Mirra for sharing her expertise, allowing us to take photographs and in answering our many questions throughout the day.
    • The society library does own a DVD on scroll making
  • Mirra is planning to have a second workshop. Please contact her directly on 9452 3055 or mirrahai@bigpond.net.au.

Unfortunately I will not be able to attend our next meeting, as I’ll be on my way to Hong Kong and Switzerland.
Happy painting and kind regards and see you all when I get back.
